Beginning Level

Girls Beginning (GB)

Boys Training (BT)

Description and Prerequisities

Our entry-level choirs are designed for young beginners, 6 to 8 years old, with little or no previous musical experience. At this level, we offer separate groups for girls and boy.

Rehearsals

GB: Thursdays, 4:00-6:00pm, Piedmont Community Church, Piedmont

BT: Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00pm, Piedmont Community Church, Piedmont

Activities

The choir year begins in September, with new members accepted in September and October via the Choral Placement process. Rehearsals are two hours long and held once a week. Beginning student sings four times a year: in the fall and spring TD recitals, as well as on the Winter Concert and Spring Sing. They may also join in occasional casual performances such as carol sing-a-longs.

Curriculum and Repertoire

Our beginner’s curriculum includes beginning solfége and sight singing, rhythm and reading techniques, and proper breathing and vowel placement. When children are ready they are assigned a theory book.

Intermediate Level

Girls Intermediate 1 (GI-1)

Conductor: Naomi Braun

Description and Prerequisites

Girls Intermediate Level One is for girls 7 to 9 entering the Choir with previous musical experience, and also for those girls who have advanced from Girls Beginning (GB).

Mondays, 4:00-6:00pm, Piedmont Community Church, Piedmont

Activities

Most GI-1 girls begin their choir year in September, though a number of them elect to participate in the optional Training Division portion of our annual summer camp session in August. GI-1 rehearses for two hours once a week, in preparation for performances in the fall and spring TD recitals, Winter Concert, and Spring Sing. They may also join in occasional casual performances such as carol sing-a-longs.

Curriculum and Repertoire

The GI-1 curriculum includes the next step in theory (they are assigned a theory book), solfége and sight singing, rhythm and reading techniques.  Emphasis is on breathing, proper vocal production, diction, and further performance skills.  The group repertoire introduces two-part singing. 

Girls Intermediate 2 (GI-2)

Conductor: Nancy Linford

Description and Prerequisites

Girls Intermediate Level Two is for girls 8 to 10 entering the Choir with previous musical experience and also for those girls who have advanced from GI-1.

Rehearsals

Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00pm, Piedmont High School, Piedmont 

Activities

Most GI-2 girls begin their choir year in September, though a number of them elect to participate in the optional Training Division portion of our annual summer camp session in August. GI-2 rehearses for two hours once a week, in preparation for performances in the fall and spring TD recitals, Winter Concert, and Spring Sing. GI-2 occasionally has the chance to participate in a local half-day festival or workshop. They may also join in occasional casual performances such as carol sing-a-longs.

Curriculum and Repertoire

The GI-2 curriculum includes learning to sing in two-part harmony, continuing to reinforce solfége, sight singing, and rhythm, and continuing to work in the theory book(s).

Advanced Level

Girls Advanced  

Conductor: Erica Maier D’Ambrosio

Description and Prerequisites

Girls Advanced is for choristers who are approximately 9 to 11 years old and have mastered the vocal skills and techniques of Beginning/Training and Intermediate levels.  A higher degree of reading proficiency and a certain amount of vocal maturity is required for entry at this level.

Rehearsals

Mondays, 4:00-6:00pm, Piedmont High School, Piedmont

Activities

Besides performing in the regular Training Division concerts (fall and spring recitals, Winter Concert, Spring Sing), GA occasionally has the chance to participate in local festivals, workshops, or concerts shared with other local arts organizations.

Curriculum and Repertoire

GA’s curriculum includes more advanced literature, some a cappella singing, occasional 3 part harmony, more advanced solfége and theory studies, and vocal development. 

Boys Advanced (BA)

Conductor: Marco Melendez

Description and Prerequisites

Boys Advanced is for choristers who are approximately 8 to 11 years old and have mastered the vocal skills and techniques of Boys Training.  A higher degree of reading proficiency and a certain amount of vocal maturity is required for entry at this level.

Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00pm, Piedmont Community Church, Piedmont

Activities
