Welcome to the Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir

Mission

The mission of The Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir is to advance the choral arts through education, performance, and collaboration at the highest artistic level, fostering individual development and international relationships.

We achieve this mission through our comprehensive program of choral music education for children ages 4-18, which teaches analytical, interpretive and technical skills through a series of choir levels appropriate to each age and developmental level.

Overview

For over 25 years, the internationally-acclaimed Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (PEBCC) has been offering children from throughout San Francisco’s East Bay an outstanding program of choral training and performance. Founded in 1982 with just 22 singers, PEBCC today enrolls over 300 children, ages 4-18, drawn from 76 local schools and 17 area communities, including Oakland, Alameda, Orinda, Berkeley, Lafayette, San Leandro, El Cerrito, and Piedmont.

The Choir's comprehensive choral program offers students the chance to progress through a series of training choirs to professional-level performing groups. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Robert Geary, the organization has collaborated with major Bay Area performing arts organizations such as the San Francisco and Oakland East Bay symphonies, has been featured on many of the Bay Area’s most prestigious concert series, and has performed with artists as diverse as the Kronos Quartet, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and the folk rock group, Bare Naked Ladies. The Choir's annual concert schedule regularly features over 50 performances, divided among the various choirs.

Unlike many children’s choral organizations, the Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir is well known for its exploration of new music, including numerous commissions and world premieres, all documented through the Choir's on-going recording activities.

Through its annual domestic and international tours, the Choir has won top honors and awards at competitions and music festivals in Europe, Asia, and North America. The fostering of international understanding through music is a vital part of the Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir experience, and is further bolstered by the group’s regular hosting of the Golden Gate International Choral Festival. Since its inception in 1991, the Golden Gate Festival has welcomed 52 choirs from 19 countries for a week of concerts, friendship, and cultural exchange. The most recent event was held July 13-18, 2009, and was attended by nearly four hundred young singers from three continents.
