David Baraff joined the Board in 2012 after realizing his two children, William and Maddy, had accumulated a combined total of over 14 years of association with the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir, and that it was past time for him to contribute as well! (Since then, Will has gone on to become a music major at Oberlin Conservatory; despite graduating the Choir, Will still returns as a PEBCC camp counselor every year!) Formerly a Professor of Robotics and Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, David left academia in 1998 to take a position as a Senior Animation Scientist at Pixar Animation Studios. Most recently, he has become Pixar’s Principal Software Engineer. Prior to joining Pixar, David co-founded a startup commercial software company whose products have been used in the production of numerous films. In 2006, he won an Academy Award for his research and software development in the field of computer animated clothing.
