DAY 12: Closing Campfire
We started the last full day of camp with some delicious breakfast sandwiches and strawberries (which are a recurring fan favorite). Voice Teacher Tim led warmups today, starting with a dance party! Then he assigned different vowels to different corners of the room and everyone got to walk between the vowels and sing them at their own pace.
During rehearsal, the leadership teams had their first assignments: packing up the rehearsal rooms! It may not have been the most glamorous activity, but they got to demonstrate their responsibility and work together on an important task.
We had burgers for lunch, along with some fresh plums. After lunch, campers showed off their spirit day attire. It was Seeing Double (or Triple) Day, so campers donned matching outfits in groups of two, three, four, and more. Ava twinned with her Labubu. The winners were Camp Joyful Voices in third place, Cabin Badger in second, and a rare three-way tie between Eagle, Owl, and Hawk for first place.
Rest period today was mandatory sleep (or trying to sleep), which isn’t always the most popular, but the quiet restful time helped everyone have lots of energy for their last afternoon at camp. At arts and crafts, Avi made lots of lizards, Marleau made a whole bunch of keychains, and Kailash and Lenna both made necklaces. At the pond, Kerala put on a diving performance. Georgia and Ayla honored the end of their last camp in Ensemble by doing a final dive into the water together. Meanwhile, Zoe, Ginevra, and Maddy went boating. Recital was packed with lots of camper performers, including a duet by Nico and Michael and solos from Audrey, Anjali, Lisa, Ember, Bebe, Joshua, and Roya.
Dinner was teriyaki chicken with fried rice and, excitingly, broccoli! We got to eat ice cream for dessert. Rehearsal locations were shuffled around from what we usually do so that everyone had a chance to rehearse in the Maple room (where the camp concert will be tomorrow). Finally, we ended the evening with a beloved camp tradition — the closing campfire! Campers and staff all got to share some of their favorite things from camp during the “chip ceremony.” Campers all enjoyed nature sounds, s’mores, and beloved camp songs, before one last night at choir camp.
