Day 3: Snow White and the Seven Bowling Pins
We had an extra fun-packed day today! Thanks to our hosts, Junior Amabile Singers for opening their homes and hearts to us. We heard about so many wonderful first-night experiences. Lenna shared that she loved her homestay - she feels at home in a home with a playground inside. Chloe and Emi had a blast playing tag in the woods beside their homestay’s house. Zoe and Lauren played on a trampoline in the backyard, then got ready for bed early for a cozy movie and board game night. Eve liked hanging out with her homestay’s dog and three cats. And many reported swimming in the pool/hot tub!
The singers all reconvened this morning at the church in preparation for a group rehearsal. They started off the rehearsal with a fruit-cannon warmup song led by Jackie - see the cute video. The singers then worked on “See the Light”, “No one can make it out here alone”, and “Sing All Ye Joyful.”
Lunch was cheese pizza (one of the homestays owns all the Pizza Huts in London!), veggies and dip, potatoes, croissants, and brownies. Then it was time for movies and bowling! Half the choir stayed at the church to watch the new “Snow White” movie, with popcorn, cotton candy, and juice boxes. Meanwhile, the other group walked to the bowling alley nearby. Check out the cute group photos from the alley! Then the groups swapped activities so everyone could join in on all of the fun. Liv won in her bowling group, with 81 points! Marco was 1 pin away from a strike.
Then it was time for dinner. Junior Amabile Singers were inspired to offer a wonderful potluck dinner for the group, in part because of the hospitality our community showed to them at the Golden Gate Festival. The families showed up with all sorts of delicious foods from every food group. Nora F. marveled at the fact that one family brought some delicious homemade sushi!
Before long, the kids all went to get ready for the concert. CC sounded especially lovely on “But Nobody Can Make It Out Here Alone” as well as both Mark Winges songs. Our choirs combined sounded spectacular! We faced some challenges with the long day, hot weather, some performance anxiety, and too much sugar from the dessert table at the potluck. The kid’s empathy was in full force and we came together as a team to care for everyone, with the help of our wonderful homestay parents.
Singers are back off to homestays for the night for a good night’s rest, and we’re looking forward to another great day tomorrow!
