Poppy Crum

Poppy Crum, PhD is the proud mother of Clio, who is in her sixth year in PEBCC and in her first year as a Concert Choir member. Poppy is a technologist, neuroscientist, investor, and life-long musician who studied violin in conservatory and has spent many years playing in orchestras and singing in choirs alongside her professional career. She is continually in awe of the strength and depth of the PEBCC program. The artistic leadership and executive staff have built a program where the highest musical excellence, spirit of joy in making music, and empowered sense of character are instilled throughout the programs. Seeing the impact that PEBCC has brought to the graduates to take forward and is nurtured in every other member of the PEBCC community at each year’s Spring Sing is a family highlight always filled with tears and inspiration.

Professionally, Poppy currently serves as Founder/President of Goby Technologies and Managing Director at Giant Step Capital. Prior to her entrepreneurial ventures, she was Chief Scientist for Dolby Laboratories and Chief Technology Officer for Trimble Inc. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University in the Department of Symbolic Systems and the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics where her work over the past 14 years has focused on the intersection of human performance and technology. She is on the board of the Consumer Technology Association, and US Vice-Chair to the International Telecommunications Union, member of the Recording Academy, and Fellow of the Audio Engineering Society. Prior to her career in industry, Poppy was Research Faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as a neurophysiologist. Poppy looks forward to continuing to bring both her technical expertise and deep musical background to service on the PEBCC board.
