Talia Young-Skeen
Talia Young-Skeen is a vocal artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. While she enjoys singing in many different genres and periods of classical repertoire, her heart resides in the Baroque canon and experimental new music. Her focus on early music has driven her recent performances with the Albany Consort and University Baroque ensemble at UC Berkeley. Currently a soprano section leader and cantor at the Church of Our Savior Mill Valley, she performs sacred early music and improvised chanted psalms weekly. Young-Skeen enjoys collaborating with composers and learning new and contemporary music. She joined the Piedmont East Bay Children’s choir in high school where she was first exposed to new experimental vocal works. In the past year she performed premier solo pieces by Michael Ching, Merlin Coleman, and Piedmont Choirs’ very own Eric Tuan.
Talia graduated the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in music and a minor in education. She co-directed and arranged for the Cal Jazz Choir throughout her time at Berkeley. Talia has been a core member of Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble since 2024, where she had the opportunity to tour nationally and internationally and record a full-length LP. Talia loves to teach music through singing, piano, and kodaly based musicianship, and recently organized a monthly series of Eastern European folk singing workshops in her local area for all ages and abilities. Young-Skeen finds that her experience in music education informs her understanding of the repertoire in her own performance practice.
