Virtual Ensemble Camp Day Five
Wow!! The end of Ensemble Camp 2020 is looming near- this will certainly be one for the books. The last full day of camp started out with Eric trying to teach Counselor Grace how to make a jam sandwich which… was eventually successful! Campers then showed off their vintage-inspired outfits for spirit day, sporting looks that took after styles of past decades (going back to the 1750s!). Spirit Judges were impressed by the crimped hair, flower crowns, and dated accessories. Fox took first place, Bobcat took second.
In theory, Eric’s class learned about voice leading, also known as “the couch potato of theory”. Voice warmups were led by Voice Teacher Lucia, and consisted of lots of stretching and breathing exercises to wake up our voices, minds, and bodies. After some rehearsal all together, singers were apparated into rehearsal rotations where they spent the rest of the morning, until announcements at 12.
After announcements and lunch, campers returned to Zoom for final voice lessons as well as games such as Mafia and Encore (fan favorites) as well as a recently discovered one called ”Codenames”.
At closing circle tomorrow, we will get to hear what some Ensemble members have been working on in their voice lessons, and listen to the first recording of Ensemble 2020-21 (the first time we will hear the choir as a whole!!).
As the end of camp draws closer, we quickly approach the awarding of the House Cup. Currently, House Fox is in the lead, followed by Deer, Owl, and Bobcat respectively.
Despite the unusual circumstances that have defined the beginnings of this choir year, so much musical progress has already been made, indicating that good things lie ahead! Music shall persevere!
