DAY 6: Once Upon a Time at Choir Camp...

Today was another cloudy morning at Walker Creek, but we were treated to a delicious breakfast of waffles, blueberries, and sausage patties!

Today’s warmup was a camper favorite — dancing with Tim! After getting our blood flowing, singers headed to musicianship. Anna and Kailamae’s musicianship class practiced a challenging rhythm exercise where they tapped two different rhythms in each hand. Simone wrote relative minor scales as a challenge and crushed it!

CJV packed up their things quickly so they could spend more time together and expressed wishes of staying at camp longer. They gave a heartfelt performance for their families, and afterwards showed their families around camp. CC and Ensemble had another productive rehearsal. Ensemble nailed their first 8-part piece of the year — an Estonian song about the Northern lights.

After rehearsal, we enjoyed a yummy lunch of chicken tenders, carrots, fries, and strawberries. Today’s spirit day was a fan favorite — soccer moms and barbecue dads! Singers dressed up with everything from fake mustaches and backwards caps to sunglasses and athletic wear.

After a rejuvenating rest period, singers headed to free time! Arts and crafts were popular today, with our special activity being keychains. Ramona pressed leaves and flowers into her keychain so she can have a piece of Walker Creek wherever she goes! Sophi and her sister Chloe made keychains together, and Josie made her first friendship bracelet! Isaac and Isabella enjoyed playing games at the tarp together, while Lauren H. wrote letters home with her own special stationery.

Although the lake was chilly, Matilda, Ayla, and Georgia boated together while writing a new song! Zuri and Roya supervised a diving competition, and Ainsley, Anjali, and Zofia encouraged Avi to jump into the water despite the cold weather.

Tim started off today’s recital by performing a beautiful rendition of Majorie by Taylor Swift, followed by an amazing performance of “Sunny Side of the Street” by counselors Iain and Ken. Grace sang “Why do they shut me out of Heaven”, by Aaron Copland, and voice teacher Alice closed out recital with a jaw-dropping performance of “I Shall Go West” written by Eric Tuan.

Dinner was pizza and salad, followed by mango mochi for dessert.

Tonight’s evening activity was the much-anticipated CFDA (Choral Fashion and Design Awards). Each cabin was given a different category under the theme of “Once Upon a Time”. Singers were tasked with using an article of clothing in a non-traditional way, as well as incorporating a cone into their outfits. Cabin Salmon won with “The Three Little Pigs”. Daria and Charlotte were the big bad wolf; Clio, Tilda, and Chloe were the different houses; and Simone, Alex, and Mia were the three little pigs. Other standouts were Sage from cabin Badger covered in shoes, and Isabella and Orli as evil step-sisters for “Cinderella”. Cabin Otter’s category was “Beauty and the Beast” with Zoe S.W. dressing up as the big bad wolf, June as a bookshelf, Leeza as a teapot, and Sara D. and Lenna as different versions of Belle.

Today was another fun-filled day, and we can’t wait for tomorrow!
