DAY 7: Break Day!

Today was the halfway point of camp, as well as the long-awaited Break Day! We all got to sleep in half an hour, and ate a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, and cereal. After an extended rehearsal, we had a lunchables-themed lunch featuring cheese and deli-sliced meat, carrot and celery sticks, and hummus, bread, and crackers. Chocolate milk was also served, delighting campers!

After resting thoroughly, campers chose a traditional Break Day activity to participate in. Options included relaxing at the pond or creek or venturing out on a long or short hike.

The short hike group enjoyed the beautiful views of the lush forest, wildflowers, and rolling hills on the Turkey Vulture Canyon Trail, and Ainsley and Felix took pictures on their cameras. The long hike campers broke out in an impromptu rendition of “Fog” from Modal Etudes in the fog on Walker Peak, and caught a glimpse of Tomales Bay for a moment through the mist. Additionally, Eric taught everyone about native flora and fauna. Simone declared it was her favorite hike she’d ever been on!

The sun was shining at the pond and campers made the most of the good weather, setting up towels and relaxing on the dock. June and Eve took a dip in the water and Sarah and Daniel went out on a canoe with counselor Flo. At the creek campers enjoyed wading in the water, and counselor Sarah pointed out to everyone i how the branches on the riverbank curve inwards, forming an arch almost like a cathedral.

After everyone took a refreshing shower, we took some time to relax at the tarp, writing letters, reading, and making friendship bracelets. Campers tested their reflexes in a fast-paced round of “Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza”. Dinner was mac and cheese, barbecue chicken, and salad, accompanied by a delicious dessert of cinnamon apple crisp and whipped cream. What a treat!

We all changed into cozy clothes and curled up with sleeping bags and stuffed animals for our next Break Day activity, the beloved movie night! Campers enjoyed the Pixar classic Ratatouille while snacking on popcorn.

They are now sound asleep - back to the regular schedule tomorrow!
